Family Support Center of South Sound Turns Mother’s Day into a WHOLE Week of Celebration!

Each year, the Family Support Center of South Sound (FSC) hosts an annual Mother’s Day 5K and FREE 1 Mile Kids run as a way to engage the entire community, encourage fun and healthy family activities, and raise money that supports critical programs and services for families with children and survivors of domestic violence. Since FSC cannot host an in-person event this year, they decided it would be fun to spend a whole week celebrating moms across the entire community! You are invited to join them for one, two, or all of the fun, family friendly activities presented from Monday, May 3 through Sunday, May 9.  

The 7th Annual Mother’s Day 5K and FREE 1 Mile Kids Run will be a virtual event this year, kicking off on Monday, May 3, and ending on Mother’s Day. You can run, walk, or roll the whole thing at once or break it up into sections. Just make sure to post your time (and your photos!) by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 9. Family Support Center knows how important it is to connect and wants this virtual event to still be as fun and engaging as an in-person event would be. Participants of every age will be provided race bibs, adults will receive race medals, and youth will get buttons. There will be ribbons for top finishers and a few fun categories, such as, ‘First person to post their time’ and ‘Best finisher photo.’ Leading up to the big week, FSC will be suggesting local trails, sharing fun videos, and auctioning off exciting items! 

In honor of Mother’s Day, FSC is offering ‘Cards for a Cause.’ Cards for a Cause are a way for you to give a unique gift to someone you love while benefitting FSC. Each card represents support for a family in need as follows:

• $10 provides food and drink for a family
• $25 supports one night of shelter for a child
• $50 affords new bedding for a family
• $100 provides four hours of one-on-one assistance with resources, parenting education, and social emotional assistance for a parent who is struggling

For Mother’s Day, FSC is also offering something a little special for anyone who want to spoil a mom in the area with a $100 gift package. The ‘Spoil a Mom!’ package includes a custom card, a lovely planter with a colorful mix of flowers, and a box of delicious baked goods from Gotti’s Sweets. The FSC Board of Directors will personally deliver these care packages during Mother’s Day weekend (May 8 & 9) to your mom, a mom who made a difference in your life, or a mom who could use a little extra love this year. The agency will also be hosting an auction each night with some great packages like the Wine and Ski package, hand crafted living floral arrangement, gift certificates to local restaurants, and more! Board Chair,

Marie Lanese, will host an exciting class that teaches participants how to create lovely, no sew, lavender sachets. This is a great gift idea for mom, or better yet, buy your mom a ticket and do it together!
