Rotary Club of West Olympia made a pledge today to donate $65,000 to local community organizations providing assistance and relief support in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Club’s commitment includes:
- A gift of $25,000 to the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound and United Way of Thurston County’s COVID-19 Response Fund;
- A $10,000 challenge grant to Help Us Move In (HUMI) and;
- A pledge to award up to $30,000 in donations to various local non-profits through its regular grant-making process.
The contribution to the Thurston County COVID-19 Response Fund will support organizations and programs providing direct assistance to serving emerging community needs, as well as, gaps in existing services.
HUMI collaborates with community agencies providing housing-related services to families with children who are either homeless or at risk of losing their home. Their program offers a unique matching grant that assists with move in costs or eviction prevention assistance.
“West Olympia Rotary has been a part of this community for 45 years and our Club thought it was important that we step up and support these vital efforts,” Dan Young, West Olympia Rotary Club President said. “Our hope is the other local Rotary Clubs will join us in support of both HUMI and the Thurston COVID Response Fund because by working together we can help our community through this unprecedented crisis.”
To further support our local nonprofits impacted by COVID-19, West Olympia Rotary is pledging to distribute an additional $30,000 in grants in the coming year. Organizations interested in applying for a grant are encouraged to visit westolympiarotary.org for more information.
