United Way of Thurston County (UWTC) and the Emergency Food and Shelter Program Board met on Thursday, September 26, 2019, to award federal funds received from the Department of Homeland Security to organizations providing emergency food and shelter to individuals and/or families in Thurston County.
Under federal funding guidelines, organizations could apply for funds in the following areas: Food, Utilities, Supplies and Equipment, Served Meals, Rent/Mortgage, Other Shelter and Mass Shelter.
The Board awarded the following funds:
Catholic Community Services: Community Kitchen, $10,000 and Drexel House, $20,000
ROOF Community Services: Food Bank Collaboration, $44,554
Family Support Center of South Sound: Pear Blossom Place, $20,000
Interfaith Works, Homeless Center, $15,000
South Puget Sound Community College: Rent/Utility Assistance Program, $10,000
Community Youth Services: Rosie’s Place, $15,000
The Salvation Army Olympia: Rent/Utility Assistance, $15,000
Total funds distributed: $149,554
United Way urges those seeking emergency food and shelter assistance to call Washington 2-1-1 (dial 211) to access available. Washington 2-1-1 call center operating hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
