Olympia/Thurston County, WA – Intercity Transit, the public transportation agency for Thurston County, invites public comment on potential federally funded transit projects currently proposed in its 2015-2017 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). Review and input of the proposed capital projects and related costs is encouraged between now and June 4. The comment period will culminate with a public hearing Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at 5:30 pm at Intercity Transit’s business office, 526 Pattison Street SE, Olympia (just off Pacific Avenue and I-5 exit 107). For those who travel by bus, routes 62A, 62B, and 66 serve this location.
The proposed TIP projects total more than $24.6 million in combined federal and local funds for 2015-17. Intercity Transit has programmed potential funding for the following 2015-2017 capital improvement projects:
- Preventive maintenance of buses and vans;
- Purchase of replacement coaches for bus service;
- Continuation of the agency’s Walk-n-Roll youth education program;
- Purchase of vanpool vehicles; and
- Bus stop enhancements to improve accessibility and safety.
The draft TIP represents Intercity Transit’s complete program of potential federally funded projects for 2015 through 2017. They include projects also programmed through the Thurston Regional Planning Council (TRPC) and the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC).
Once the Intercity Transit Authority considers comment and then approves the projects outlined in its TIP, the regional planning organizations, TRPC and PSRC, will review them. These regional planning organizations must integrate projects specific to their respective areas into the State Transportation Improvement Program, which is subject to federal and state transportation agency review.
