Tenino’s Sandstone Distillery was awarded a Double Gold Medal last week at the 2016 Seattle International Spirits Awards for their Stone Carver White Whiskey. This on the heels of a Silver Medal from the American Craft Spirits Association in Chicago in March. The Seattle event included national and international brands like Grey Goose, Seagram’s, Kettle One and Hendrick’s. 15 of Washington State’s 110 distilleries were awarded medals, with Sandstone Distillery the lone recipient of Double Gold in any of the spirit classifications.
Sandstone’s Stone Carver Vodka was also a Silver Medal winner in the 2016 American Craft Spirits Association competition, and was honored with a Bronze Medal at the Seattle International Spirits Awards.
Craft distillers John and Justin Bourdon were thrilled to have their spirits place against some pretty big national and international brands. “It’s an honor just to be on the podium competing with some of the oldest and largest distilleries in the world,” says John. He and son Justin have made it their passion to blend art and science, old school and new, to create Sandstone’s now world-class spirits right here in Thurston County.
A founding member of Thurston County’s agri-tourism loop, the Bountiful Byway, Sandstone is located just outside of Tenino. Tours and tastings are offered Thursday through Monday from 12:00-5:00pm at 842 Wright Rd SE.
