South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) is honored to welcome author Merritt Long to speak on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. Long’s virtual book reading and discussion is part of the SPSCC Artist & Lecture Series.
Long will read from his book “My View From the Back of the Bus”, a memoir that weaves his own story with the history of racism in the United States, from Alabama to Washington State.
In addition to being an author, Long headed up four Washington state agencies and started the Learning Seed Foundation with his wife Marsha Tadano Long. The Learning Seed Foundation funds college scholarships, mostly people of color in Thurston and Pierce counties, who show promise and want to serve their communities but face financial challenges.
The Artist & Lecture Series brings nationally and internationally recognized artists and speakers who offer diverse and innovative views and performances to the campus and local community, giving audience members the chance to broaden their cultural experience.
