Seattle’s Whim W’Him comes to SPSCC stage
January 30, 2017—OLYMPIA, Wash. South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) and Ballet Northwest are proud to present the next performance in the SPSCC Artist & Lecture Series, Seattle contemporary dance company Whim W’Him.
Whim W’Him has been wowing audiences with innovative choreography and dance since 2009. The group will perform one of their newest programs, SENSATION, featuring new contemporary dance works from the 2016 Princess Grace Award Choreography winner Penny Saunders, New York City-based Larry Keigwin, and Whim W’Him’s artistic director, Olivier Wevers. SENSATION is the second program of the group’s SENSES season.
“Dance is a poetic reflection of the world we live in,” said Wevers. “Dance allows us to witness our human nature from uniquely nuanced perspectives that are inclusive and encompass an array of cultures and generations. Furthermore, dance can help us cope with our existence at times of discomfort.”
The theme of this year’s Artist & Lecture Series, SPARK, perfectly aligns with Whim W’Him’s outlook on dance. SPARK is meant to inspire and initiate courageous and purposeful discussion within our community concerning critical and contemporary issues.
Tickets for this outstanding performance can be purchased online or at the door for $25 general admission and $20 for students and seniors. SPSCC students, staff, and faculty are entitled to one free ticket with college ID.
