Saint Martin’s University welcomes Amy Stewart-Mailhiot as the incoming dean of library and learning resources for the O’Grady Library. As dean, Stewart-Mailhiot will serve as the chief administrative officer of the O’Grady Library and provide leadership, strategic vision and effective management of all programs, services and collections. She will supervise the library staff and oversee the Learning Commons, collaboratively set a strategic direction for the O’Grady Library and manage and generate financial resources to support and enhance library services. Stewart-Mailhiot will be responsible for promoting greater collaboration among the library, the Center for Student Learning, Writing, and Advising and other academic centers and offices on campus. In addition, she will also support the creation of an institutional repository to disseminate University scholarship. Stewart-Mailhiot will start at Saint Martin’s on July 1, 2018.

Stewart-Mailhiot comes to Saint Martin’s from Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) in Tacoma, where she has served as an associate professor, instruction coordinator and reference librarian since 2010. At PLU, Stewart-Mailhiot developed a robust information literacy program and collaborated with faculty on the creation of an information literacy curriculum for PLU’s First Year Experience Program. During her time at PLU, she also focused on student learning and success; she served as a member and chair of the university’s faculty committee on the admission and retention of students and led the team in creating a strategic plan for retention. Stewart-Mailhiot also led the development of the vision for the Center for Student Success within PLU’s Mortvedt Library, and her work involved close collaboration with the university’s Language Resource Center, Academic Assistance Center and Writing Center.
Prior to her time at PLU, Stewart-Mailhiot served within the Central Library at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. At Vanderbilt, her roles included government information librarian, acting head of government information and media services, head of media services and bibliographer and reference librarian.
Stewart-Mailhiot graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history from Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon, and earned her master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Washington.
