Saint Martin’s University recently announced Chantelle Marker, M.A. as the new associate dean of military and graduate programs. Since October 2019, Marker has served as the director of graduate admissions. Previously, she was the senior recruiter of graduate admissions, a position she held since fall of 2018.
“Chantelle Marker works passionately to set students up for success. Marker leads a team that demonstrates the possibilities for degree completion for undergraduate and graduate military students and advanced degree success for all of our students,” said Saint Martin’s University Provost Kathleen Boyle, Ph.D. “Her own connections within the military and her personal pursuit of advanced degrees make her a compelling advocate for the students with whom she serves.”
As associate dean of military and graduate programs, Marker will be responsible for overseeing the admissions and recruitment process for our military-affiliated community and graduate degree-seeking learners. Saint Martin’s offers 14 graduate programs and post-baccalaureate programs, including Master of Accountancy (M.ACC.); Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC); Master of Business Administration (MBA); Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE); Master of Education (MED); Master of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs (MED-HESA); Master of Engineering Management (MEM); Master of Science in Environmental Engineering (MSEV); Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME); Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS); Master in Teaching (MIT); and Ph.D. in Leadership Studies; as well as school administrator certification and Secondary Teacher Alternate Route (STAR).
“Saint Martin’s commitment to its community on and off-campus and particularly with the military community is really unique and uncommon at most universities. Our graduate programs have dedicated directors and faculty with whom the students get to know really well” said Marker. “Students are given a rich education in smaller class sizes where the directors teach passionately, offer expert guidance on pathways to employment, and options for careers with many organizations and companies. It is truly a close-knit community that goes well beyond the classroom itself.”
Before coming to Saint Martin’s, Marker was an English as a second language (ESL) instructor and the associate director for admissions and outreach for Centralia College. Prior to this, she worked for the Pacific Mountain Northwest Development Council and Employment Security Department (ESD) where she connected businesses and higher education institutions to help people find employment opportunities.
Marker also has strong ties to the military. As someone who grew up in a military household and is now a military spouse, she became heavily involved with the military community. When Marker and her family moved to Washington, she joined a task force for veteran and military adult education, became a member of the family readiness group, and was the battalion events coordinator.
Marker earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Willamette University, her master’s degree in teaching from Concordia University, and her master’s in multicultural transnational literature from East Carolina University. She is also a Leadership Thurston County 2017 graduate and is currently working toward her Ph.D. in public policy and administration in adult education.
