Candidates Mendez, and Fediay are in a tie for the Democratic office in Precinct 185 Fair Oaks. With all votes counted, candidates Rodolfo (Rudy) Mendez and Nick Fediay have tied for the position of Democratic Precinct Committee Officer (PCO) in Precinct 185 Fair Oaks, located in the Pattison Lake area of unincorporated Thurston County. Thurston County Auditor’s Office will conduct a manual recount of the votes cast in this race. The public is invited to attend all aspects of the recount being held at the Ballot
Processing Center (2905 29th Avenue SW, Suite E, Tumwater). Preparation begins at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19. The manual recount will occur at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 22.
Mendez and Fediay each received 22 votes (37.93%), with candidate Ruben D. Hernandez receiving 14 votes (24.14%). There are 463 registered voters in Precinct 185.
“This is truly a great example that every single vote matters,” said Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall. “I’m hopeful that voters will remember that when they cast their vote in November. There are a lot of important races on the November ballot, and a single vote could determine the winner.”
Unlike all other offices on the August Primary Election ballot, PCOs do not go on to the November General Election. If results do not change following the recount, Auditor Mary Hall will flip a coin to determine the winner.
This is the only race from the August Primary Election to have a recount.
