With great pleasure, Physicians of Southwest Washington (PSW) appoints Dr. Michael Shannon as its Physician Executive. Shannon previously held one of the three Medical Director positions, supporting PSW’s Medicare Advantage (MA) and Accountable Care Organization (ACO) contracts, in Olympia, Washington. With his new position, Shannon will manage Specialty Care and Utilization Management for PSW and contracted partners.
“As a board-certified endocrinologist, internist and community advocate, Dr. Shannon’s addition to the executive leadership team will support advancing our clinical programs throughout our ACO, MA and management services lines of business.” noted Melanie Matthews, Chief Executive Officer for PSW. Shannon is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington, serves on the Editorial Board of Clinical Diabetes, and Chair of the Professional Education Committee for the Washington chapter of the American Diabetes Association.
Dr. Shannon graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Diego, and then he went on to perform an internal medicine residency, geriatrics fellowship, and endocrinology fellowship at the University of Washington. He has spoken nationally and internationally on diabetes and other endocrinology conditions.
