Perhaps no single substance, save for water, has had the vital impact on humanity that wood has. From the very trees that provide this resource, to myriad man-made uses, we interact with wood on some level every day of our lives. Now, a range of artists interprets the significance of one of nature’s most abundant organic materials in The Meaning of Wood, this spring at The Gallery at the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts.
The Meaning of Wood considers the fate of trees beyond their lifespan. Employing a variety of media, invited artists provide thought-provoking work that will challenge the viewer to ponder the significance of trees as wood in our community. The exhibition will feature a number of artists from around the Pacific Northwest, including Olympia artists Susan Aurand, MalPina Chan, Kathy Gore Fuss and Jeffree Stewart.
The Meaning of Wood runs from Monday, April 7 through Friday May 2 in The Gallery. A special opening reception will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 10.
