Join Corduroy the bear on his delightfully destructive chase through every section of the department store in search of his missing button. This enduring story stirs up the stage with a bustling rumpus of action and a tender story of true friendship.
The play’s scenes alternate between Lisa and her mother’s heartwarming home life and the slapstick silly antics of Corduroy, the teddy bear. When the bear comes to life after the store closes, he becomes big as life. As Corduroy visits parts of the store in the search for his missing button, he brings things tumbling down and turns on gadgets and appliances, including a vacuum cleaner that has a mind of its own. All the while, the Night Watchperson is in pursuit creating an ongoing chase scene that is deliriously fun.
The two store “mannequins” pose in the department store scenes, but in between scenes assist in moving set pieces on and off stage in a rollicking manner that will feel more like a circus juggling act than a set change. The youngest audience members will have a ball, but so will the adults. You will leave the theater with more laughs, broader grins, and a warmer heart than when you arrived.
Olympia Family Theater’s production of Corduroy opens September 28 and runs through October 21, 2018, and is recommended for all ages. Individual show tickets and subscriptions can be purchased at olyft.org or by calling the box office at 360.570.1638.
