Every year, the North Thurston Education Foundation awards over $105,000 in scholarship dollars to North Thurston Public Schools’ students. However, many eligible students don’t apply for a scholarship because they are intimidated by the process, or they have a perception that they wouldn’t qualify. To help students navigate the scholarship process, the Foundation is looking for mentors to help students apply for available scholarships.
“We were inspired by one of last year’s scholarship recipients, Connor Crowder. Connor enlisted the help of a scholarship coach who helped him apply for close to 100 scholarships. We know there are plenty of people who’d be willing to volunteer their time as a scholarship coach — we just need to find them — so we are partnering with Panorama to hold an informational meeting about matching mentors with students,” said Michael Jones, executive director of the North Thurston Education Foundation.
On Tuesday, March 13 at 1:30 p.m., anyone in the community interested in becoming a scholarship mentor can attend an informational meeting at Panorama.
