OLYMPIA, WASH. – More than 100 area agencies and organizations will receive $841,000 in vital operational funding from the 2017 Nisqually Indian Tribe Charitable and Local Government Program. Grant recipients were announced by the Tribe at a Dec. 28, 2016, award banquet.
“The Nisqually Tribe is fully committed to building success in many facets of our community life,” said Farron McCloud, Tribal chairman. “We are committed to working with our government partners in the counties and state to move forward together.
“We invest a portion of casino gaming revenues in meeting day-to-day needs in the area and in providing a strong foundation of support services for future generations of our families and neighbors. Nisqually people are a giving people, and it’s a special time of year when the Tribe can give back to our communities and people in need,” McCloud said.
The program includes three types of funding. Financial support is awarded to 501(c)3 tax-exempt organizations dedicated to public safety, children’s services, community health, cultural preservation, veteran’s support and environmental protection; these recipients are selected in a competitive application process. Scholarship funds and community groups also participate in the program. Local government funding provides for police, fire, emergency services and other public safety needs.
The Nisqually Indian Tribe Charitable and Local Government Program has awarded an estimated $5 million over the past five years, demonstrating the Tribe’s important role in supporting the community.
“I am honored and proud our Tribe can work with and give back to our surrounding communities and governments,” said Julie Palm, Nisqually Tribal Council member and treasurer. “This benefits a wide range of residents in Thurston, Mason and Pierce Counties.”
