On the evening of June 11, Marilyn Strickland, the former Mayor of Tacoma and current President and CEO of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce will headline Elevate Olympia, the Olympia Downtown Alliance’s small business conference.
Strickland played a leadership role in the revitalization of downtown Tacoma, working through challenges similar to those in downtown Olympia and helping to bring in millions of dollars of new public and private investment. In February, she assumed the role of President and CEO of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce.
“We’re excited to learn about her insights from her time in Tacoma and her work in Seattle,” said Dave Wasson, President of the Olympia Downtown Alliance and Batdorf & Bronson. “We’ll be listening closely for how her insights might translate to actions in downtown Olympia.”
The evening reception, sponsored by US Bank and open for registration to the public, highlights the Downtown Alliance’s Elevate Olympia small business conference. Educational sessions for the conference will take place June 11-12 from 8 am to 12 pm and feature sessions on marketing, business acumen, and clean and safe procedures. Thurston County businesses are invited to attend this portion of the conference, supported by a Community Development Block Grant from the City of Olympia.
“We’re inviting the Thurston County business community to their downtown for a couple exciting days of learning,” said Downtown Alliance Executive Director Todd Cutts. “Businesses don’t even need to commit to the entire conference, they can sign up for the complimentary, individual sessions that most interest them.”
Sessions include topics such as social media, branding and storytelling, business planning and management practices, and downtown clean and safe resources. For more information and to register, visit http://downtownolympia.org/Elevate.
