October 15, Olympia, Wash.— The Community Foundation of South Puget Sound is
delighted to announce the return of its highly anticipated community-wide giving
campaign, Give Local, which will take place from November 11 – 22 on spsgives.org.
Give Local South Puget Sound, an initiative of the Community Foundation of
South Puget Sound, encourages community philanthropy, increases support for
causes people in our region care about, and boosts nonprofit visibility. The event is
poised to make an even greater impact by transitioning to a new fundraising
platform with Mightycause, which will streamline donations and enhance the giving
experience for nonprofits and local donors.
This year, we celebrate the 8th annual Give Local, an event that has positively
impacted our community. What started as a small, invite-only gathering in 2017,
raising around $120,000 for 50 nonprofits, has evolved into a vibrant communitywide celebration. In 2023, local people raised $939,938 for 134 participating nonprofits, with a cumulative giving total of $3.9 million over the last seven years.
Give Local’s success is a testament to the incredible spirit of generosity that
permeates the South Puget Sound. It’s also a reminder that anyone—regardless of
age or income—can give back to their community meaningfully. Last year, an
impressive 84% of all gifts made were $200 or less, and every dollar raised received a
proportional boost from a $100,000 Bonus Fund provided by the Dawkins Charitable
Trust—a benefit participants will enjoy again this year.
The diverse group of generous residents and participating nonprofits is what makes
Give Local a community-wide effort and demonstrates the power of collective
giving. Last year, one donor expressed that “being part of a community of caring
neighbors is comforting and provides a safety net. I want to help make and maintain
that reality.” This year, a participating nonprofit stated, “This is an opportunity for the
community to come together and support important initiatives in their community.
Every dollar is reinvested in the local economy, and the impact is greater when we
work together.”
For the first time this year, donors can help cover credit card and other fees during
checkout to help support the costs of the event. The Community Foundation and
generous event sponsors will pick up the tab for any remaining fees, ensuring that
100% of all donations go directly to nonprofits. Community Foundation of South
Puget Sound would like to extend a special thanks to all our returning sponsors in
2024: Dawkins Charitable Trust, Lucky Eagle Casino & Hotel, Olympia Federal Savings,
Puget Sound Energy, TwinStar Credit Union, and WSECU.
