GHB Insurance, Inc. staff member Casey Meehan recently visited the offices of members of Congress in Washington, D.C., during the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) Capitol Conference held February 26-28, 2018. Meehan, an individual insurance market specialist with GHB as well as the president-elect of one of Washington’s regional chapters of NAHU, joined hundreds of healthcare professionals from across the country who attended the annual conference.
Meehan, along with other Washington State NAHU members met with the respective offices of Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-2), Rep. Suzan DelBene (WA-1), Rep. Denny Heck (WA-10) and Sen. Patty Murray (WA) to address potential opportunities for meaningful changes that will increase stability in health insurance markets and make health plans more affordable and accessible. Part of the discussions centered on input from some of GHB’s clients who provided actual stories about the impact of current health care policies. Prior to the trip, GHB Insurance had emailed over 400 of their group benefits customers for that feedback.
“It was a privilege to be able to take our clients’ concerns and suggestions straight to Washington, D.C. and into the offices of the leaders who represent us,” said Meehan. “We were able to demonstrate how current policies are playing out on the ground with our customers, right here at GHB in Olympia and surrounding communities.”
During their visit with Sen. Patty Murray, Meehan, the Washington group and NAHU officials presented her the Association’s 2018 Spirit of Independence award for her extraordinary political skill and courage throughout the past year to stabilize the individual health insurance market and advance issues of great importance to NAHU and the members it represents.
“We are proud of Casey and the time he took to represent our industry and our clients,” said Ron Bruchet, owner and president of GHB Insurance. “We have our finger on the pulse of what is happening in healthcare and we want to be the place where customers can come to get questions answered and find the best healthcare coverage available.”
