Calling all Students and Parents!

Free One-Day Career Camp for Thurston County Students!

The Thurston Chamber Foundation is launching a new, free, one-day career fair called Career Camp on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 8:30 am to 1 pm at Chinook Middle School!

Career Camp is a chance for middle-school students to explore careers in sectors that are growing. Students can participate in hands-on activities, talk to professionals working in those fields and connect with industry leaders who are hiring. The following high-growth sectors will have representatives at Career Camp:

  • Healthcare
  • Hands-On Careers
  • Customer Service
  • Information Technology
  • Agriculture

There will be three sessions for students as well as a time to explore the Career Camp Resource EXPO.

While students are in “camp”, parents and guardians can attend an informational session and learn about available resources and steps students can take to land internships & mentorships and discover on-the job-training opportunities

Pre-registration will open February 15, and is first come first served and limited to 65 seats in each career pathway.

Students – Saturday you will check in at the registration desk and receive an name badge with your classroom assignment for your career sessions. We try to keep everyone with their top career path but may need to switch to your alternate choice if classes are full.

Parents – Your sessions are open to your selection and you will not be assigned to specific Parent session. As seating capacity is limited in the student sessions, we reserve student sessions for 6th – 8th grade students only and ask parents to attend the parent session.

Parents

Parents/Guardians of student attendees are welcome to attend Find Your Future! No registration is required for parents.
There are 3 parent sessions that help you make informed decisions when helping your student navigate their future. No registration is required. Parents/Guardians will be in sessions separate from their students.

  • Financing Their Future: In this session, parents will walk through the steps to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Careers in the Local Economy: What jobs are going to become available in the future? How can your student prepare for the workforce of the future? This session answers those questions and more.
  • Planning their Future: How can you support your student in their career planning process? Help your student identify a purposeful career path, that builds upon their strengths.
