The Thurston County Chamber Foundation is pleased to announce a partnership with the South Puget Sound Community College Foundation for the Diversity in Business Scholarship. Thank you to Great Wolf Lodge and Washington State Employees Credit Union for making this scholarship possible.

In October 2021, Ayami Nakanishi from Hokkaido, Japan, was awarded $2,375 from the Diversity in Business Scholarship and is currently pursuing her Associates of Arts Degree at South Puget Sound Community College. “I appreciate this opportunity to continue my studies. I’m pursuing an Associate’s in Arts Degree from South Puget Sound Community College. My goal is to contribute to world peace and help people suffering and need housing, money, and medical care. To achieve my goal, I needed to study abroad to learn English and get knowledge. Again, I appreciate you for giving me a great chance to study in the United States,” said Nakanishi.

SPSCC Foundation extended the Diversity in Business Scholarship application for the remaining two awards of $2,375 until November 5, and the remaining two recipients will be announced in January 2022.

Persons of color, living in Thurston County, attending South Puget Sound Community College (any course of study), who plan to contribute to the Thurston County community in the future are encouraged to apply. General applications were completed on the SPSCC’s Foundation website at www.spscc.edu/scholarships. Students are also asked to submit a personal essay describing their previous, current, or future community service in Thurston County.

Thurston County Chamber Foundation established the scholarship in 2020 to support academic success for people of color in Thurston County. Emphasizing inclusion, diversity, and equal treatment of others, the Diversity in Business Scholarship creates educational opportunities and pathways to a better quality of life within our communities. Thank you again to Washington State Employees Credit Union, and Great Wolf Lodge, for making the Diversity in Business Scholarship program possible! We are now accepting contributions to the Diversity in Business Scholarship for the upcoming 2022-23 school year.
