Tumwater, WA – Local residents are invited to join the City of Tumwater and LOTT Clean Water Alliance for the official opening of the Deschutes Valley Park on Saturday, May 7, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The park is located at 600 T Street SE, Tumwater WA 98501. Light refreshments will be provided. Please note that on-site parking is limited. Walking, biking, or carpooling to the event is encouraged.
The Deschutes Valley Park was first envisioned when the City purchased the Tumwater Valley Golf Course in 1996. As a part of that purchase, land became available for the park and for the future Deschutes Valley Trail. Park amenities include a children’s play toy, restroom, parking, custom mosaic artwork by local artist Mike Cummins, interpretive areas and a scenic overlook from the top of a reclaimed water storage tank.
The LOTT Clean Water Alliance completed construction of the reclaimed water storage tank in December 2015 providing up to a million gallons of storage for Class A Reclaimed Water. The City partnered with the LOTT Clean Water Alliance to co-locate the storage tank and the park and coordinate construction in two phases, which resulted in cost savings, construction efficiencies, and other public benefits. The storage tank now provides up to 600,000 gallons of Class A Reclaimed Water per day for irrigation of the Tumwater Valley Municipal Golf Course. Using reclaimed water for irrigation helps conserve water from local aquifers for environmental benefit and other uses, ensuring wise use of water resources.
