America’s Credit Union [ACU] is proud to announce the success of their first annual Giving Tree campaign. ACU gives back to the community in many ways throughout the year, but the Giving Tree campaign was organized by staff who searched for a way to give a little extra around the holidays.
Each of ACU’s fifteen branches were equipped with a Christmas Tree, and ornaments tagged with various donation amounts. The decorations were hung in the branches, allowing members to select their donation amount and keep the corresponding ornament. The funds raised were donated to the Center for Strong Families, a program organized by The United Way and Goodwill, to help struggling families with persistent poverty, financial instability, and low-wage stagnation.
In just a few short weeks, ACU was able to gather $2,526 from the local communities and branch-goers. In an act of holiday cheer, ACU’s President/CEO Kenneth Leonard matched the donations raised, bringing the total donated to $5,052.00
When asked about the Giving Tree, Jacob Cuthbertson, ACU’s Community Liaison, responded, “We really do our best to help the community throughout the year, and we wanted to find a way to help just a little bit more. With the giving trees, we get to work in partnership with our community to raise funds for the less fortunate, and I think that is pretty cool!”
ACU gives back to the community continuously throughout the year. The Turkey Shoot Golf Tournament is held every year on JBLM and is hosted by ACU. The proceeds from this tournament are then donated to charities on JBLM, to help service members around the holidays. Operation Ham Grenade, and Operation Turkey Drop are both filled with volunteers from ACU year after year, to ensure everyone on JBLM gets a ham or turkey to eat with their families. America’s Credit Union also holds an annual Shred Day event, inviting the community to bring any old documents they are needing to dispose of.
ACU would like to extend a big Thank You to their givers, for which this would not be possible without their generosity. A formal presentation with Goodwill will be held soon.
