The Olympia Film Society proudly announces the 36th annual Olympia Film Festival in April 2020. Moving from their usual November date, the festival is going through a massive shift into the springtime to coincide with Spring Artswalk.
Submissions are now open for the Olympia Film Society’s 36th annual Olympia Film Festival. Filmmakers can now submit their films at filmfreeway.com/OlympiaFilmFestival, with the deadline on December 23, 2019. In a monumental shift, the Olympia Film Festival has changed its season for the first time in OFS history. The 36th annual Olympia Film Festival will no longer take place in November, but April 2020.
Named one of the “Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World” by MovieMaker Magazine in 2018, the Olympia Film Society has hosted the annual Olympia Film Festival since 1983. The gathering is a ten-day, around-the-clock extravaganza of films, filmmakers and film-related guests, special performances, discussion panels, and educational workshops. The festival attracts between 5,000 and 7,000 attendees each year.
The festival is well known and respected throughout the film world and is hosted around the Olympia, Washington downtown area, mainly inside the Capitol Theater, a 1924 concert and movie palace owned and operated by the Olympia Film Society. This organization supports a small staff and board of directors along with over 125 dedicated volunteers who select films, organize events and run the Capitol Theater.
The Capitol Theater has served as an artistic hub for the arts in Olympia since its beginnings as a vaudeville stage in 1924. The theater serves as space where the Olympia community gathers in order to connect, empower, and support the arts.
