Mainstage Productions Postponed
Olympia Family Theater was set to open Suzette Who Set to Sea on March 20th. The staff along with the cast and crew have determined that we will postpone the run of this show until another time. We made this heartbreaking decision yesterday after the Thurston County Board of Health passed a resolution imposing restrictions on events over 250 people. Olympia Family Theater seats 102; however, public events with fewer than 250 attendees are also prohibited unless event organizers can take some very specific steps to minimize risk. We felt that we could not maintain the social distancing required if we invite in the public. The health and safety of our patrons, staff, volunteers and our entire community must be our number one priority.
We have also postponed auditions and production plans for the final show in our season, The Alphabet Caper. As with Suzette, we hope to stage both of these shows later in the year, or potentially next season.
If you already purchased tickets for either of these shows, we hope you are willing to donate the unused ticket back to the theater and if you have the resources, consider making a donation to Olympia Family Theater at https://olyft.org/donate/.
April Let’s Play Performance Cancelled
The Let’s Play performance of Mother Goose Mashup scheduled for April 1-5 will be cancelled. We will continue with the Let’s Play season in May.
Camps and Workshops Still Scheduled
We are still planning to hold our spring break camps April 6-10 and will let families know if we need to cancel.
Summer camp registrations open tomorrow, Saturday, March 14th at 10 am. We have 11 weeks of creative fun planned with more than 40 offerings for kids aged 5- teens.
Message from Jen Ryle, Artistic Director of OFT:
Please know that our hearts go out to all of the other arts organizations in our community and our colleagues across the country, many of whom are cancelling shows that may never get an audience. The creation of live performance is a labor of love and many do this work for little or no monetary compensation. We hope that when our public health officials determine that it is safe to gather again, we are able to open our doors to welcome you back.
Donate where you can. Support local businesses as you are able. Be kind to each other.
Based in downtown Olympia, Olympia Family Theater is a nonprofit community theater that engages audiences of all ages in performances and programs that entertain and educate.
