OLYMPIA, WA (May 19, 2016) – In honor of National Senior Health and Fitness Day, MBK Senior Living is hosting the “Use It or Lose It” event on Thursday, May 26th at each of the company’s 18 senior communities. The event will showcase how participation in the MBKonnection program enriches the whole person, mind, body and spirit, and positively affects seniors’ health and wellness.
At The Firs, the MBK community in Olympia, WA, the “Use It or Lose It” event will be held at 1:30 pm. Open to all seniors and their families the “Use It or Lose It” event will include three 15-minute interactive activities that focus on mind/spirit, body/spirit and cognitive/intellectual connections.
Example of activities to include: guided meditation, color therapy, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, brain aerobics or brain teasers. Following the activities there will be a short presentation about the benefits of healthy nutrition and the Mind Body Konnection program. Refreshments will also be served.

According to Roberts, one of the most popular and beneficial program activities is guided meditation. Studies show that seniors who meditate experience improved longevity, are less lonely and have enhanced moods. In addition, results have suggested that practicing meditation may slow Alzheimer’s and reduce the need for hospitalizations in elder adults.
