What to Expect
Find Your Future began in 2004 and has grown to include all Thurston County 8th–12th grade students. This program is in partnership with local school districts.
How it Works:
Online registration on the Chamber website goes live two months before the event, registration forms are mailed to student’s houses, and you are able to register day of the event. Students who preregister are able to select their top three career paths from the list of presenters. Students are then assigned to two presentations.
Parent and student sessions happen simultaneously. Find Your Future is about hearing directly from the employed about what it is like to have their career. We encourage presenters to discuss both the good and bad points of being in a particular career field.
Student presentations are done a little bit differently by each career field and depending on the presenters. Some presenters bring in props, images, or utilize PowerPoint presentations. We encourage presenters to come in dressed for a day at work.
Parents have presentations that they go to separate from their students. These are decided on each program year by the Find Your Future Committee. A survey is sent out to both parents and students to see what they suggest for the next event.
Parents will be able to select two presentations to attend:
- Financing Your Child’s College Education
- Planning Their Future
- Trends in Employmen
Benefits to those sponsoring Find Your Future may include:
